Joining the Club

We are a fairly small club with membership numbers fluctuating between 40 and 50 across a wide age range. Our activities are not just confined to climbing and hill walking. Some members enjoy fell-running, canoeing, mountain-biking, caving, skiing, and orienteering. There is a wide range of abilities within each discipline. There are regular meets in many parts of the British Isles and a 'fringe' group which climbs on Thursday evenings at Helsby and Frodsham, and on indoor climbing walls in the winter.

In addition to the outdoor activities, there is a strong social side, mainly focusing on our splendidly situated Hut, near Capel Curig in Snowdonia. There are also regular Tuesday evening gatherings at the Lion Tavern, Tithebarn Street, Liverpool.

New members are always welcome with membership open to anyone of 18 years and over. If you like mountains and walking and/or climbing, you will probably fit in! We are not able to "teach" climbing. However keen and spirited novices will always find encouragement. If you like the sound of the Anabasis and want to get involved, the best way is to come and join us for a few Tuesday evenings at the Railway Hotel, and get to know some members. You will need an existing Club Member to support your application for membership.

The Annual fee for Ordinary Membership currently stands at 45 or 70 for a Joint Membership. 'Joint' is defined as Ordinary Members married, living as common law partners or in a civil partnership. Reduced fees for people under 30 joining the Club for the first time. Pro rata payments for anyone joining part way through the Club (i.e. calendar) year.

All members receive a Hut Key and are able to stay at the Hut at any time, and pay member nightly rates. Ordinary Membership of the Club includes individual British Mountaineering Council affiliated membership. This provides free Third Party Liability Insurance cover, discounted prices for BMC products and services Insurance, Books, Maps) and 4 copies annually of the excellent Summit magazine. It also enables the Club to support the work of the BMC as the Governing Body for mountaineering in Britain.

Many outdoor shops give a discount on production of a Club membership card.
